Cherry, Musical group

Cherry Performing Sunday, 1:30 pm.

The band Cherry was formed in 2009 with the vision of bringing pure Japanese pop (J-Pop) and theme music from popular Japanese anime series to an ever-growing audience in Los Angeles with a passion for Japanese pop art and culture. While Cherry’s music can vary from intense to light-hearted fun, the band features fine musicianship from well-honed players.

Vocalist Mali Matsuda – an intriguing and entertaining performer — came from Tokyo to LA in 2004, studied at Hollywood’s Musician’s Institute, and currently works as a music teacher and fashion model.

Guitarist and technical director Yoshi Miyamoto, from Kanagawa prefecture in Japan, graduated from the Conservatory for Music Composition in Virginia, and has worked as a professional recording engineer in LA for 12 years. Yoshi’s versatile guitar playing can be heard on tracks commercially released in Japan.

Keyboardist Eiji Kasai comes to LA from the northern city of Sapporo (cold beer, anyone?). He graduated from Berklee College of Music, and performed for several years around the east coast before joining the live music scene here in LA.

Bassist Hiroshi Yamaguchi and drummer David Bauer are veteran players and long-time LA residents who are actively performing and recording a wide variety of music in the LA area.

Phoenix AshPerforming Saturday, 5:30 pm.

Phoenix Ash is a five piece power pop band hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area in California. We take influence from the Japanese rock scene and can be described as Incubus trapped in an Iron Maiden; a sound that combines progressive rock elements with pop ideas to create a sound that is at once satisfying, engaging, relatable and electric.

The Black Crystals, Musical group

Black Crystals Performing Saturday, 1:30 pm.

The Black Crystals, Who are they exactly? A group of talented musicians some have said. Some say they just appeared out of nowhere, like wandering pirates looking for that great treasure. Their journey all began in late 2005, when the idea to form an Anime/Video Game tribute band had popped into Ryp and Captain’s heads. With guitar in hand, and drums keeping the beat going. They needed another element to make this great fusion explode, They needed Alie. As their journey continued, they picked up a new member, Nico. The legendary keytar demon. With a full arsenal of awesomely great music The Black Crystals were armed and ready to rock.

Makenai, Musical group

Makenai Performing Saturday, 12:00 noon.

In early 2008, a group of six people formed Makenai. Born out of pure unadulterated love for anime and its music, this band has been performing in several anime conventions, such as Anime Expo, Ani-jam, Anime Vegas, and Animé Los Angeles. It was perhaps because of fate (or maybe just by pure dumb luck) that they found each other, but the chemistry and friendship that developed within the band was evident from the very first day it was formed. The members’ various influences helped shape their unique style in interpreting the music. Now, this Los Angeles-based band ― armed with two vocalists (AX Idol 2008 Finalist Evelyn Aranibar and AX Idol 2008 Winner Pamela Moss), two dueling guitarists (Brathzo Karanovic and Angel Miranda), a rumbling bassist (Kiko Montecillo), and a heavy-pounding drummer (Jade Abellaneda) ― will share their passion for music with anyone
willing to listen.

Odd’s Bodkin, Musical group

Odd's Bodkin
Performing Friday, 4:30 pm.

We are Odd’s Bodkin, an L.A. based musical act playing Celtic-Gothic-Gypsy-Pagan music on fiddle, flute, whistle, mandolin, guitar, bass, drums and vocals. We have played at various similar events, including (but hardly limited to) GenCon (IN), Starwood (NY), Northern California Renaissance Faire, Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire, Bristol Faire (WI), WicCan Fest (Toronto), Cornstalk Music Festival (OH), and the list goes on and on… We play dark, eerie, Celtic and Gypsy based Geek-friendly music, and put on a very interactive show.

As well as being incredible musicians, we have a couple of other selling points: Kenny Klein, our fiddler, has a book called Through the Faerie Glass, an examination of dark, erotic Faerie lore coming out on Llewellyn Worldwide in January: and our singer, Stephanie Mitchell, has voiced several Animes, including Aeon Flux (as “The Twins”) and Xenosaga 2 (as “Citrine”).

Lucine, Musical group

Posted: December 5th, 2009 | Author: Hazel Chaz | Filed under: Music | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Lucine Performing Friday, 7:30 pm.

Vocalist Luka (ex Yuki – Death Bouquet & ED3N) and guitarist Neru (ex Agito – Death Bouquet & ED3N) met in 2005 and began Death Bouquet miudsummer of 2006 with members KAi and Kozio. the ensemble began creating music showcasing a mix of different genres and emotions, drawing influence from their enjoyment of Japanese culture and music, producing a unique sound with elements of Visual-kei imagery and style.

They later went on hiatus for nearly a half a year until the formation of ED3N, which included members Luka and Nick (Neru). This band underwent various member changes before Luka decided to begin a solo project in 2008. Following Luka’s solo decision, Luka and Nick formed a band once again under the name Rozario, which was later changed to “lucine” after copyright complications. Nick also chose to by Neru.

Now under the name lucine, Luka and Neru have begun the song writing process and are hoping to move towards bigger exposure than in past experiments. After some member swaps, bassist Dai (ex libertine:ame) was introduced, as well as guitarist Kanon and drummer Haku, who were chosen after a band management decision shortly after lucine’s current goal is to play for the largely expanding population of both visual and non visual Japanese rock fans. Inspired by bands of many different genres and styles, they hope to create a unique blend of both music and style together in their venture.
