We’ll have a Regency dance on Sunday evening, after Closing Ceremonies. Come in costume or come as you are. If you don’t know how to dance, we’ll teach you. It’s fun, and the dances are easy to learn.
Remember those long dance scenes in the recent Pride and Prejudice mini-series with Colin Firth (available on DVD)? We’re going to do that kind of dancing.
A regent is a person who rules a monarchy while the monarch is alive but unable to rule, such as by youth, illness, or absence. England has had only one in modern times, the eldest son of George III, who was “First Gentleman of Europe”, then Prince Regent, then George IV. His era was a colorful time, the day of Beau Brummell and Napoleon. The Regency writer Jane Austen is one of the great names in literature. Many of us were first infected by the 20th Century writer Georgette Heyer, who made a high art of the Regency romance novel. The sense of humor in this period seems to appeal to the fannish whimsy.
Do join us, especially if you’re at least reasonably frivolous.

We’re looking for someone to make up some signs for our DJs, probably using EL (Electroluminescent) wire. The ideal candidate is artistic and already knows what EL wire is all about, or is willing to learn how to work with it.

Anime Los Angeles 6 has four dances scheduled, for our three-day convention: on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, plus Sunday afternoon.
The first dance will be our “Day Zero” Ice Cream Social Dance on Thursday. There will be ice cream served outside the ballroom (rather than inside in the dark). Pick up your badge, get a little ice cream, help us unload the truck, and dance a little.
The Friday Night dance will be after our AMV Contest. Help clear the chairs away and we’ll dance all night.
The Saturday Night dance will be after our Masquerade. When the room is cleared of the chairs, we can start the music and go as long as we like. (We’re also going to make sure we have air conditioning all night.)
On Sunday afternoon/evening, we’re going to have a Regency Dance. This is another excuse to dress up. We’ll teach you the steps (they’re really easy). If you saw the Pride and Prejudice mini-series with Colin Firth, it’s the sort of dancing they were doing there.
