Video program descriptions

Adventures of the Mini-Goddess (used as filler between shows) -- The Oh! My Goddess characters (mainly the goddesses Urd and Skuld) return, but in the "handy petite size" in this series about having fun on a very small scale. Bite-sized and fun, each episode is about five minutes long. ages: All [courtesy of Pioneer]

Angel Links -- "Meifon Li is: ...the head of a major corporation ...the caption of a state-of-the-art space ship ...a formidable martial artist ...a skilled negotiator. ...only 16 years old! Meifon is an extraordinary girl, with an extraordinary tale to tell. Join Meifon as she and the crew of the Angel Links run a free pirate-fighting service. She's rounded up a crack staff of experts, including the master strategist Valeria and the unstoppable Dragonite Duuz. They're going to clean up the galaxy, and they're not afraid of getting their uniforms dirty!" ages: 13+ [courtesy of BANDAI Entertainment]

Astro Boy -- Astro Boy, first broadcast on Japanese television from 1963 to 1966, is the first Japanese television series that embodied the aesthetic that later became known as anime. It originated as a manga comic series started in 1951 by Osamu Tezuka. After enjoying success abroad, Astro Boy was remade in the 1980s as Shin Tetsuwan Atomu (Astroboy in the US and other Western countries) and again in 2003. For a time Astro Boy enjoyed a level of popularity in Japan equivalent to Disney's Mickey Mouse. ages: All [courtesy of The Right Stuf]

Card Captor Sakura -- Sakura accidentally releases a deck of magical cards, each with its own wild power. With the help of the guardian beast Kero-chan (now in cute doll form), she has to recover them all before they work their mischief. Magical girl genre, but several cuts above in quality and story. Suitable for all ages, but subtitled. ages: All [courtesy of Pioneer]

Carried By the Wind -- Tskikage Ran is an easygoing samurai who only cares for naps, lazy afternoons, and good sake, and her sidekick, Meow, is an easygoing martial artist. Both a parody and homage to the wandering samurai genre, this show mixes excellent action with comedy and engaging characters. ages: 13+ [courtesy of BANDAI Entertainment]

El-Hazard OVA -- Three high school students and their teacher are transported to the fantastic world of El-Hazard, a place of tranquil beauty, lost, ancient ruins, and an army of Bugrom that aren’t too bright, but are making lots of trouble. Makoto, Nanami, and Mr. Fujikawa just want to get home, but the cackling Jinnai would rather take over the place.... ages: 13+

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (used as filler between shows in Video 2 and 9pm-9am in Video 1) -- Take Full Metal Panic and crank up the comedy. A very fun show that focuses on Kaname's and Sousuke's demented high school life. TV PG (V) [courtesy of ADV Films]

Jubei-chan the Ninja Girl -- Sword master Yagyu Jubei had sent his servant on a 300-year long quest for a successor, a pert, bouncy girl to wear the Lovely Eye patch and become the supreme swordswoman in the land. Now, Jiyu Nanohara finds herself with a servant, a mystic eye patch, and legions of assassins who want to end the Yagyu line forever. A fast comedy with some nice character touches. ages: 13+ [courtesy of BANDAI Entertainment]

Kiddy Grade -- Eclaire and Lumiere are young government troubleshooters sent out to resolve interstellar difficulties. But there's more to their missions than they realize, and more to their pasts than they know. ages: 13+ [courtesy of Funimation]

Mega 64 Version 2 (live action) -- 2006, 30 mins each. Dir. Rocco Botte. The ongoing serial of America's favorite videogame related comedy program continues with Mega 64 Version 2 as Rocko, Derek, Shawn, Marcus, Horatio and Dr. Poque combine real life with videogames to the shock and annoyance of an unknowing public. Featuring such famous skits as Paperboy and Katamari Damacy as well as the famous Ico skit. EAT AT JOES

The Mysterians (Chikyu Boeigun) (live action) -- 1957, 88 mins. Dir. Ishiro Honda. Aliens arrive on Earth and ask permission to be given a certain tract of land for their people to live on. But when they are discovered to be invaders, responsible for the giant robot that is destroying cities, the armed forces attempt to stop them with every weapon available. [courtesy of Media Blasters]

Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok -- "Ah, how the mighty have fallen! Caged inside a little boy's body and banished to Earth by the almighty Odin, the still-proud-and-powerful Loki now runs the Enjaku Detective Agency. JKoined by his trusted assistant Yamino and a beautiful (but accident prone) high school gir named Mayura, Loki earns a living probing the darkest corners of the paranormal, the occult, and the otherwise peculiar. And yet the one metaphysical mystery that involves him directly remains unsolved: what has he done to be exiled to Earth? How can he return to Asgard? Why do the other Norse gods want him dead? Join in the adventures as our mystery trio take on hair-raising hauntings, possessed dolls, vengefull birds of prey, and penny-pinching deities in the the first phenomenal volume of Mythical Detective Loki Rangarok!" TV PG [courtesy of ADV Films]

Petite Princess Yucie -- Centering around Yucie, a 17 year old who is trapped in a 10 year old's body, the story follows her and her friends, all of who are designated as a Platinum Princess candidates. A Platinum Princess receives the Eternal Tiara which grants any wish, but only to the one it judges worthy and only one wish. TV PG [courtesy of ADV Films]

Prétear -- "The Prétear and the seven Knights of Leafe. Saving the world, one plant at a time! Sixteen-year-old Himeno Awayuki wants a normal, happy life. But when her nutty father Kaoru marries the wealthy executive Natsue, Himeno finds herself living on an estate the size of a small country and saddlked with two step-sisters, Mayune and Mawata, who won't give her the time of day! Little does Himeno know her life will go from bad to worse with the Princess of Disaster escapes from the realm of Leafeania. The dark princess is seeding the land with demon larva and intends to suck all the Leafe---the life force of all beings---from the world! Led by the brooding Hyaate, seven Knights of Leafe search for the only person who can stop this catastrophe: the Prétear, a special girl who, when merged with a Knight, transforms into an all-powerful defender of life. And the Prétear just happens to be Himeno! But is she up to the challenge? Don't miss the first exciting installment of Prétear!" TV PG V [courtesy of ADV Films]

Ranma 1/2 -- Ranma is a martial artist with a curse: cold water turns him into a girl. Then there's the love triangles. And the un-cute, unwilling fiancé. And the host of strange people who usually either want to date and/or fight him, some of whom also have problems of their own with water. Life is never simple, but it is pretty funny. One of the classic anime comedy series. Occasional brief nudity. ages: 13+ [courtesy of Pioneer]
